Rosh Codesh means "Head of the Month" and is the festival celebrating the new moon, which begins the new lunar month of the Jewish calendar. Just as Judaism sanctifies time annually through the major festivals, and weekly through Shabbat, so Rosh Chodesh sanctifies time on a monthly cycle.
Gathering the women in sacred circle to observe and celebrate Rosh Hodesh, the Festival of the New Moon, is an ancient and deeply nourishing part of our Jewish tradition. Come and take part in this celebration of ourselves, of our uniqueness as women, of our relationship to each other, to the Earth, to the Universe and to the Divine. Judaism is a multifaceted mystical religion that can be more easily appreciated when each new moon we connect with the energies of that month that are related to upcoming festivals and holy days, many of which occur on the full moon. This is also a sacred gathering where a woman can celebrate her own special event with a personal ritual that is supported, honored and witnessed by the surrounding community of women.
